FIGURATIVE PAINTINGS
Using a variety of photographic reference material collected on trips to London and other towns and cities, plus sketchbooks and a large element of imagination, I try to capture the spirit of society on the move.
The focus of these figure paintings originated with a fascination of the shadows cast by figures when captured from an elevated viewpoint. The beautiful shapes cast on pavements are generally hard to appreciate when life is moving at a pace but are mesmerising when freeze framed. Equally, the patterns made by bodies moving in a crowd or seen from unusual angles, have an artistic quality of their own. The shapes, colours, shadows and dynamics of moving figures, whether seen individually or as a group, provide a never ending source of inspiration to me as an artist.
